Chapter 9 - Vicious Little Spirit

Lin Xiusong hung up the call and tossed her cigarette into the garbage. She paused outside the door for a moment before walking into the hospital room as if nothing had happened.

Inside, Yu Haowei already wore a thick layer of ointment on his face. He was asking the doctor anxiously, “Doctor, is my face ruined?”

If it is, I’m gonna f*cking kill that crazy bitch!

“Probably not. Your burns haven’t reached the dermis.” The doctor added cautiously, “Are you prone to scarring?”

The patient shook his head, “No.”

“Then you’re fine.” The doctor gathered his medical supplies and instructed, “Rest well. Don’t touch your wounds. This degree of burns wouldn’t leave scars, but you might look a bit splotchy since new skin is a different colour. You’ll return to normal with time, though.”

Yu Haowei signed in relief and grabbed his jacket to leave.

“Where are you going?” Wu Yaya’s quiet voice sounded from the side, where she was sitting.

“Getting myself a woman. Only my face got burned, my d*ck is fine.” The man showed a vile smile.

Now that his nerves had calmed, he was wrenching a knife into Lin Xiuzhu’s heart again, as he had always done. Women are bitches. The worse you treat them, the more they cling to you.

Look, Wu Yaya just proved it.

On the other side, Lin Xiusong was furious.

Looking at the girl who was encircling his neck gently from behind and the older woman whose face had contorted in anger, Yu Haowei knew power was in his hands again. A smug and contemptuous grin formed on his face.

Yet, the grin only lasted for a moment before it became frozen, for Lin Xiuzhu’s slender arms began strangling him in a chokehold.

The feeling of suffocation brought back memories from just two hours ago, when the girl almost killed him in the same position. Her hugs weren’t hugs—they were her maniacal obsession that wished she could meld with him in flesh and blood. To that end, she even cut off a part of herself and fed it to her beloved boyfriend.

The man’s face slowly turned blue, his neck bending backwards dangerously. A little more and his neck would break. His bloodshot eyes were about to pop out of his skull from the lack of oxygen, and the streaming tears washed away the yellow-tinted burns ointment on his face.

He felt like he was on the gallows.

His eyes looked towards Lin Xiusong, begging with his desire to live. His neck was nearly snapped and his hyoid bone almost shattered—he couldn't utter a word. Pleading with his eyes was all he could do.

The older woman didn’t stop her sister’s homicidal actions. Instead, she slammed the door shut, shielding them from the public’s prying eye.

Wu Yaya muttered against Yu Haowei’s ear, voice full of pitiful plea, “Don’t go, please. Can you stay for me? I’ll be scared without you.”

Her arms tightened with every phrase, to the point of making his eyes roll back into his head.

Fortunately, Lin Xiusong was still sane and knew that killing someone is against the law. She stepped forward to pull on her sister’s arm and dissuaded her earnestly, “Yaya, calm down. He’s not leaving. He’ll stay with you. Don’t strangle him to death before we get your psychiatric evaluation. Don’t be rash.”

Wu Yaya ignored her words and continued tightening her arms. Still inquiring madly, “Can you stay for me? I can’t bear us being apart. I need you by my side, always.”

These words came straight from the deepest desire in Lin Xiuzhu’s heart. Her soul had already been dominated; she really couldn’t live without Yu Hoawei. She would do anything to make him stay, even if it meant sacrificing her child or losing her organs.

But at the same time, she knew she could never make him stay.

He would never appreciate her no matter how much she did for him. He had a rock for a heart. No, perhaps he never had a heart in the first place.

She wanted to jump out of this firepit, only to find her legs already incinerated into ash.

That was why her wish wasn’t to leave him, but to pull him into the firepit with her. Yi Ling was right, Lin Xiuzhu did want to save herself, but her method was self-destruction. She wanted to merge her broken soul with Yu Haowei’s twisted one. Forever and ever, inseparable. Even if it were painful, even if she wouldn’t feel a hint of happiness from it, just them being together was enough.

This was essentially a deathwish.

Yet it was Wu Yaya’s task to give her client a good life in addition to granting their wish. Thus, a contradiction appeared—to grant her wish meant she would be courting disaster, but to avoid this path meant never satisfying her wish.

That was why this was an impossible task for ordinary humans.

But the little crow wasn’t an ordinary human; she was a twisted spirit. She was fully capable of handling Lin Xiuzhu's twisted desires and her psychologically disturbed boyfriend

“Stay with me, please?” Wu Yaya muttered this incessantly with her icy lips next to Yu Haowei’s flushed ear.

The man desperately wanted to agree, for he’d die if he didn’t. He tried to nod, but his neck was being bent backwards, his vertebrae sounding like they were about to snap with the cracking sounds. With no other options, he looked to Lin Xiusong again, his bloodshot eyes now overflowing with a plea bordering on despair.

The older woman hurriedly told her sister, “He agreed, he agreed! Yaya, let him go now!”

The tightening noose suddenly disappeared.

Yu Haowei collapsed to the floor, gasping like a dying dog.

“Reuuughugh kackkk kakk.” He curled into the fetal position as he coughed violently. The pain in his lungs, on his face, in his neck, in his throat... all kinds of agony were nailing into his head. It was breeding an even more potent headache and an unshakable dread.

Yu Haowei looked at Lin Xiuzhu through tear-fogged eyes, only to find her bent over him, looking with concern.

Her eyes were too dark, too cold, and too heavy—as if some malevolent creature lurked behind them, waiting to pounce at any moment.

Terrified, he averted his gaze and buried his face in his arms. The man was curled up on the floor, shaking, just like a dog beaten into submission by its master.

Wu Yaya poked at his head with a thermometer left by the doctor. “You won’t leave anymore, right? You’ll stay with me, right?” her voice barely above a whisper.

It sounded like she was probing him hesitantly, afraid of being abandoned by him. Going by her voice alone, one would think she was the lesser in this relationship.

Yu Haowei jolted from her poking as if he was being electrocuted. He stammered in panic, “I won’t leave. I won’t leave. I’ll stay with you.”

Lin Xiusong almost burst out laughing, seeing him so afraid.

The scene in front of her made her relax completely. Xiaozhu was indeed trying to save herself. This alter ego exists to subdue Yu Haowei. Wasn’t it his forte to harvest love from women and then toss them aside? This was perfect for him. Yaya would give him all the love he wanted. She would offer him the most intense, overwhelming, and obsessive love that could exist in this world.

As for whether he could handle this love? Well, that was his problem to deal with.

The older woman grabbed her purse and said in a cheery voice, “I’m going back. I’ll bring you breakfast tomorrow morning. Rest well, you two.”

They were in a deluxe private room, where there were no outsiders to disturb them. Wu Yaya could play to her heart’s content.

“Thank you, sis. See you, sis.” The girl waved her goodbye. Then, she poked Yu Haowei’s head with the thermometer, ordering him, “Go shower. Sleep with me after you’re done.”

Yu Haowei scrambled to his feet. He was pleading to Lin Xiusong with his eyes. “Are you not staying to keep watch? Lin Xiuzhu's clearly not normal!”

He used to go out of his way to avoid this lady, but all he wanted now was to grab hold of her leg and beg her not to leave him alone with this madwoman.

Lin Xiuzhu wasn't just mentally unstable—she was abnormally strong too. Her hold felt like that of a giant python, as if her grip could crush his body at any moment.

“I know. Once she's feeling better, I'll take her for a psychiatric evaluation. Please look after her for now.” For the first time, the older woman spoke to the scumbag in a calm and composed tone.

What was the use of a psychiatric evaluation? Shouldn't the priority be sending her to the loony bin? Yu Haowei was on edge. He wanted to discuss this further with Lin Xiusong, but she left without a second glance.

The man made a run after her, but the two bodyguards outside the door shoved him back inside and locked the door.

He felt all warmth leave his body upon hearing the lock click.

“Aren't you going to take a shower?” Wu Yayaya climbed onto the hospital bed, her dark eyes fixed on him.

She was emotionally stable at the moment.

Yu Haowei did not dare to provoke her further. He quickly grabbed a change of clothes and slipped into the bathroom. He loitered inside, not wanting to leave its safety. It wasn’t until Wu Yayaya raised her voice in slight anger to call on him, that he emerged again, trembling. He climbed onto the bed as if walking on thin ice.

“Sleep.” Wu Yaya wrapped her slender arms around his neck.

Yu Haowei held his breath. He wanted to pull away but didn’t dare to. He could only curl himself up as tightly as possible beneath the covers. The girl’s supple body pressed against his back, her legs coiling around him like a venomous snake.

The man suppressed his trembling, but he couldn’t help his quickening heart rate. He was beginning to realize just how dangerous and uncontrollable Lin Xiuzhu truly was.

“Do you love me?” Wu Yaya pressed against his ear with her icy lips,

“I do,” His voice trembled.

“Will you be with me forever?”

“I will.”

“Are you going to marry me?”

“I am.”

He agreed to anything and everything she asked of him. He had become a yes-man, a role that once belonged to Lin Xiuzhu.

When she was finally satisfied, she held him tight, arms around his neck and legs around his. She ordered in a low voice, “You can sleep now.”

Yu Haowei closed his aching eyes, but his heart was still pounding relentlessly. How could he possibly sleep easy with a noose around his neck and wrapped by a venomous snake?

However, he would find something even more disturbing whenever he woke up in the middle of the night. Lin Xiuzhu wasn’t sleeping at all. Her eyes were wide open, darker than the night surrounding them, and fixed on him like a beast on its prey. Or perhaps an evil spirit eyeing its meal.

Her eyes shone with genuinely sinister bloodlust in the dark.
